NEW Hand crafted .50 cal. Civil War Howitzer black powder cannon. It has been test fired to ensure that it will fire reliably. It is primarily designed to fire "blank" loads with just powder and a paper wadding and is very loud, but it is capable of firing .490" lead round ball, or patched 12mm plastic or wooden beads. I build these miniature black powder cannons completely from scratch, including the 14 spoke wooden wheels. The barrel was made from a .50 cal rifle casing and brass pipe, and assorted other hand made brass parts. The barrel measures 5 ¼” long with a bore diameter of .495” . The carriage is all wood, has a stain finish, and has assorted brass fittings and brass screws. It has lead weight inside the main frame and 5 ¼ ounces attached to the bottom. The barrel is attached with .020” brass straps and brass screws, and the barrel can pivot up and down. The wheels are three layers of 1/16” birch plywood for the rims with wooden hubs and wooden spokes. It has a brass tail skid plate, brass lift handles, brass chocks, brass chain that can be put through the right wheel as a “parking brake” when the cannon is being displayed, or it can be stored on the brass hook on the right side of the frame while it is being fired. It includes a hand made ram rod and cleaning mop which store along the underside of the frame and are removable. Overall length is 10 1/2”, height is 4 3/8”, width is 6”, wheels are 4 3/8” tall, and it weighs approximately 1 pound. It uses ffg type black powder, is very loud, and has impressive recoil when fired. Recommended powder charge is: 12.5 to 50.0gr for blank loads (1-4 scoops), 12.5 to 25.0 for lead round ball (1-2 scoops), and 12.5 to 50.0 gr with patched 12mm plastic beads.
